Da Nang affirms status as Vietnam’s leading sea sports hub

Da Nang affirmed its role as Vietnam’s sea sports hub by hosting the 2025 National Youth Sailing Championship and the National Youth & Clubs’ Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) Championships, with vibrant coastal atmosphere. Photo: PHI NONG Staged at Nguyen Tat Thanh Beach, the event attracted nearly 80 athletes from water sports strongholds including Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong and Da Nang. It marked the 5th time the coastal city has been chosen as host, underscoring its favorable conditions and organizational capacity. Competitors displayed remarkable skill and determination across sailing categories with Optimist, Laser and 470 classes, alongside SUP races ranging 200m – 3,000m across diverse age groups. The lively atmosphere, fueled by Da Nang’s long, scenic beaches and strong tourist presence, added to the excitement of the competition. The host city celebrated impressive results. Da Nang topped the overall rankings in sailing with 4 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. In SUP, it finished second with seven gold, five silver and 15 bronze medals, behind Thai Nguyen. The Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Federation has already designated Da Nang as the site of a national sea sports training center. The tournament also served as preparation for SEA Games 33. Vietnam’s national sailing team includes 11 members, 4 of whom are from Da Nang, who together claimed 3 medals at the youth championships. They will continue training in Ho Chi Minh City and Thailand before targeting gold at the regional Games.
