Developing modern transport and logistics infrastructure

Chairman Pham Duc An emphasized that Da Nang has been designated by the central government as a key innovation hub for Central Vietnam and the country as a whole.

Da Nang currently has two international airports. Of which, Da Nang International Airport is operating effectively, with the increasing number of passengers. It targets 20 million passengers annually in the coming years.

The city plans to develop Chu Lai Airport to meet 4F international standards, expanding both passenger and cargo operations to form a large-scale logistics center.

At the same time, it will deploy an urban railway system to promote socio-economic, trade, service, tourism and logistics growth in line with its orientation of green, clean and sustainable development.

To accelerate the formation of an international financial center, Mr. An stressed the need for the city to develop a comprehensive social infrastructure, especially international-standard schools and hospitals, along with high-class tourism and healthcare services.

He requested AVSE Global to study and provide strategic recommendations, including resource development for the Free Trade Zone and Vietnam Financial Center in Da Nang.

With its reputation and large international network, AVSE Global is expected to continue to act as a bridge to attract more businesses, particularly those in the logistics sector, to explore investment opportunities in the city, he noted.

Towards a regional economic – financial center

Highly praising Da Nang for its outstanding potential and advantages to become a regional economic, financial, and technological center, AVSE Global recommended that Da Nang focus on enhancing youth skills, building a culture of international integration, and expanding creative and recreational spaces for both residents and visitors in a bid to position itself among the most livable cities in the region within the next 10 – 20 years.

AVSE Global also proposed an urban spatial structure with three main zones. In particular, the urban core will be the existing downtown area developed as a compact urban model focusing on services, finance, startups, and high technology.

The new urban belt will include Lien Chieu, Hoa Xuan, and southern Da Nang, expanding coastal connectivity with Quang Nam to form a chain of urban links between Hoi An and Tam Ky for supporting the functions of the central core.

The extended connection zone will encompass the former inland area of Quang Nam. It will pay attention to developing green agriculture, forestry and tourism, linked to the urban core via modern, high-tech transport infrastructure.

Building a green, smart city

AVSE Global proposed Da Nang become an economic hub in Southeast Asia, with a focus on finance, technology, logistics, and international tourism. Also, marine, island, and high-end resort tourism should be developed in tandem with high-quality eco, cultural, and agri-tourism.

Regarding the environment and sustainable development, AVSE Global recommended Da Nang pursue a green, ecological, climate change-adaptive urban model, harmonizing its coastal, river, and mountainous landscapes. Importance should be attached to natural disaster risk management, renewable energy, circular economy, and carbon emission reduction.

Moreover, the city should restructure the scale of its urban areas to form strategic buffer zones while still ensuring environmental quality.
