Following recent approval by the Da Nang government, a quick-response (QR) code will be added to some food products on sale at the downtown Han Market on a pilot basis.

The smart label will help customers to trace the origin of food products sold at the market. The QR code can be scanned with a smartphone to learn where and by whom the food was grown, as well as how it was produced. The smart label will help customers access detailed information about ingredients, and the provenance of food products to increase their trust.

In addition, customers can scan QR codes printed on produce packages to learn about when they were packaged and distributed; as well as a list of any pesticides and fertilizers used.

The use of such smart labels is the inevitable result of the need to enhance customers’ trust in the city’s food safety.

By 2020, all food products on sale at local first-grade markets will feature a smart label. By 2025 QR codes will be printed on all food products sold at the second-grade markets.

Besides, QR codes will be placed on locally-scoured agricultural products in the coming time.
