LG Electronics builds new R&D base in Da Nang for automotive business

The Hai Phong-based LG Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd., under South Korea’s LG Electronics has established its new base in Da Nang to expand its automotive business with car manufacturers in the city. The South Korean vehicle component unit has opened a research and development (R & D) center in the Da Nang Information Technology Park (DITP) Tower in Lien Chieu District. The new base set up by LG Electronics Vietnam in Da Nang aims to attract new plants, and seek for business opportunities with car manufacturers in Da Nang, and Viet Nam at large. The new centre will specialise in the manufacturing of components and software solutions related to infotainment systems, operations, and 3G and 4G connectivity for cars. Director of the LG Vehicle Component Solutions Development Centre Vietnam Jung Seung Min affirmed the new base in Da Nang would become the biggest R&D centre for LG Electronics in Viet Nam. “I am so impressed with the development of Da Nang’s leadership vision. It’s the reason why we decided to launch our second base in Da Nang after the first one we opened in Ha Noi four years ago,” Jung Seung Min said. The South Korean vehicle component unit plans to cooperate with universities and junior colleges in Da Nang to train qualified staff for its new base in the city. In the immediate future, the new base in Da Nang will recruit more than 200 people, with priority given to talented engineers hailing from Da Nang or the natives of the city who are working across Viet Nam. Also, the new base will encourage its member companies, R&D centres, and satellite and subsidiary manufacturers under the South Korean tech giant to seek investment opportunities in Da Nang. Under its development ambitions in Viet Nam, the South Korean tech giant will turn Da Nang into a ‘base’ for setting up the information technology research and development center of the whole corporation. Entering the Vietnamese market in 1995, the South Korean tech giant has established three companies, two factories, and 80 warranty centres, employing nearly 2,000 workers, according to data published by South Korea’s LG Electronics.
