The second day of the 3-day break for the National Day (2 September) coincided with the weekend. Although showers poured down onto many of Da Nang’s parts, popular attractions were crowded with holiday-makers from both home and abroad.
Despite unfavourable weather, such local tourist sites as the Bridge of Love Locks, public promenade park at the western end of the Dragon Bridge, the Marble Mountains Tourist Area, the Linh Ung Pagoda, the Museum of Cham Sculpture, and the Museum of Da Nang welcomed a large number of tourists who came there to admire their scenic beauty, enjoy relaxing moments, and take souvenir photos.
At the Marble Mountains Tourist Area, for example, regardless of heavy rains, there was a sharp increase in visitor arrivals, mainly foreigners, compared with normal days.
Shivani, an India national, was satisfied with his wonderful moments gained during his trip to the Van Thong Cave, which highlights a round and slightly slanted shape toward the top with an ancient stele and a large statue of Buddha. Behind the statue is a (quite narrow, but worth a try) pathway to the peak which is also called “Road to Heaven”. He affirmed, the image of Da Nang seen from above become more beautiful and majestic.
According to preliminary statistics just released by the municipal Department of Tourism, during this year’s 3-day holiday break for the National Day, the total number of tourist arrivals to local attractions is likely to have reached more than 124,600, up more than 4 % versus the year-ago period. Of this figure, the number of foreigners is estimated to stand at over 35,000.
Encouragingly, holiday resorts and tourist sites have been ensuring security and food safety, and deploying many highly attractive activities to serve tourists on this special occasion.
Meanwhile, local supermarkets have received a number of international shoppers, many of whom come from China, South Korea, Thailand and Europe, along with domestic ones from the metropolises of Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Phan Thong, the Director of Co.opmart, confidently said, the number of shoppers to this venue during this year’s holiday break is likely to have risen by a few percentages compared to the same period last year. The high consumption of such items as regional specialities and fashion clothes has been reported.
Likewise, the Vincom Mall, BigC and other supermarkets have witnessed a relatively stable consumption of their displayed goods.
