Da Nang expands digital economic and blockchain cooperation with Switzerland’s Lugano

As part of their ongoing working trip to Switzerland, the delegation of Da Nang’s officials, led by Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party Committee Ngo Xuan Thang, recently had a meeting with Mayor of Lugano Michele Foletti. Briefing the Da Nang visitors on the locality’s great potential, Mayor Michele Foletti said Lugano City is located in southern Switzerland in the canton of Ticino. Lugano is famous for not only its landscape, culture and art events at the LAC Lugano Arte e Cultura but also leading educational and research addresses such as the University of Southern Switzerland (USI), the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA USI-SUPSI), and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). Lugano is oriented to become a “digital innovation city”, implementing many initiatives on technology and digital finance, notably the Plan B program in cooperation with Tether to promote digital currency payments and develop the blockchain ecosystem. Thanks to its dynamic business environment, open policies and a modern technology platform, Lugano is emerging as an attractive destination for international cooperation activities in the fields of finance, education, technology and innovation. On behalf of the Da Nang delegation, Deputy Secretary Ngo Xuan Thang thanked Mayor Michele Foletti for his warm welcome. He expressed his desire that the Mayor will act as a bridge to help strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Da Nang and Lugano, and Swiss partners as well, in the coming time. Da Nang wished to enhance cooperation with Lugano in public communication strategies, public transport and payment projects, education programs, and Plan B in collaboration with Tether (including the Plan B Forum), he added. The Da Nang delegation took a souvenir photo with leaders of Lugano City. Also, the Da Nang guests visited the Satoshi Statue, a visible symbol of Lugano’s dedication to digital innovation and blockchain ecosystem development. The statue, crafted by Italian artist Valentina Picozzi, is made from stainless steel and corten blocks. It pays homage to Satoshi Nakamoto ‘s pseudonymity through a see-through design. The delegation also visited PoW.Space – a key co-working space in the Plan B ecosystem, to learn about Lugano’s blockchain startup and business support model. PoW.Space hosts many seminars as well as offers a space for fintech and AI companies to work, network, and collaborate. The Da Nang visitors had working sessions with representatives of Tether/Plan B to discuss the cooperation orientation and implementation model of Plan B, along with Tether’s businesses and partners in Lugano. The Da Nang delegation worked with Tether’s businesses and partners in Lugano City, Switzerland. The representative of Lugano presented an overview of the city’s digital transformation strategy, including the Lugano app, public communication programs, public transport and payment projects, educational activities, and key initiatives within the Plan B framework such as the Plan B Forum. The Da Nang delegation also worked with NAKA – a fintech company specializing in providing payment infrastructure based on blockchain technology, with the goal of connecting digital assets to the traditional payment system.
