Da Nang, Laos’ Sekong sign cooperation agreement on border security for 2026 – 2030

Vietnam’s Da Nang and Sekong Province of Laos, on Monday, signed a cooperation document on border management and development for the 2026 – 2030 period. As part of activities within the Vietnamese Party chief’s two-day state visit to Laos, the event had special significance on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Lao National Day (December 2, 1975 – 2025). At the ceremony, Secretary of the Da Nang Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang and Standing Deputy Secretary of the Sekong Provincial Party Committee Sisanga Keodouangdi represented the two localities in exchanging the cooperation document – the first agreement signed by the newly expanded Da Nang with a Lao locality directly related to border management and protection. Under the agreement, both sides will strengthen coordination in protecting the peaceful and stable border; strictly implementing the Agreement on Vietnam – Laos Land Border and Border Gate Management Regulations signed on March 16, 2016; and combating transnational crime. The two localities will foster cooperation in socio-economic development, healthcare, education, and infrastructure. In addition, Da Nang will support Sekong in training high-quality human resources, especially in the border districts of Dak Cheung and Kaleum, as well as organize Vietnamese – Lao language training programs for local officials, soldiers, and students in the border areas. The two sides also agreed to complete a route connecting Da Nang and Sekong through the Nam Giang – Dak Ta Ooc international border gate and the Tay Giang – Kaleum auxiliary border gate.
