Hoi An offers free admission Dec. 4 to mark 26 years as UNESCO World Heritage

Visitors will enjoy free admission to Hoi An ancient town in Da Nang on December 4 as it marks the 26th anniversary of its UNESCO World Heritage recognition. Photo: QUOC TUAN The annual initiative, maintained by local authorities for many years, aims to express gratitude to tourists and celebrate the date when the Hoi An ancient town was officially inscribed as a World Cultural Heritage site. The complimentary entry programme is part of a wider series of cultural activities organized to commemorate Vietnam Cultural Heritage Day (November 23), the 26th anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town and My Son Sanctuary’s UNESCO recognition, and the 8th anniversary of the UNESCO inscription of Bai Choi, the traditional Central Vietnamese folk performance, as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A range of notable events will accompany the celebration. These include the 2025 review conference of the Vietnam World Heritage Club, held at the My Son Sanctuary; an exhibition showcasing documentary heritage featuring engraved stele rubbings in Hoi An, located on Le Loi Street (Hoi An); the “For the World Cultural Heritage of Hoi An Ancient Town 2025” cross-country running race. Local authorities will also host a ceremony to present the municipal-level certificate recognizing the Faifo Prison historical site, situated in Hoi An Ward, as an official city relic. Through these above-mentioned activities, Da Nang aims to highlight the cultural value of its heritage sites, promote public engagement and reinforce Hoi An’s position as one of Vietnam’s most distinctive and well-preserved ancient towns.
